Gatte ke Chawal


  • Besan -1 1/2 cup,
  • Basmati rice cooked1 1/2 cups,
  • Red chilli powder 2 tsp,
  • Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp,
  • Soda bicarbonate a pinch,
  • Ginger paste 1/2 tsp,
  • Salt to taste
  •  , yogurt 2tsp
  • Ghee 3tbs,Oil deep fried for deep-frying
  • Bayleaves 2,
  • Greencardamoms2, ,
  • Cloves 3-4 ,
  • Cinnamon pieces 2,
  • garam masala1 tsp,
  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 2 tablespoons.


  • Mix besan, turmeric powder,1/4tsp red chilli powder, salt, soda bicarbonate, cumin seeds, half teaspoon ginger, yogurt and mint leaves. Add a little water to make a stiff dough.Divide into equal parts and roll into cylindrical shape.
  • Cut into two inch pieces.Cook in two cups of boiling water for ten to fifteen minutes. Drain. Let the gattas cool a bit.Heat sufficient oil in a kadai and deep fry the boiled gattas.
  • Heat ghee in a deep pan. Add bay leaves, cloves, green cardamoms, black cardamoms, cinnamon,remaining ginger paste and sauté for a minute. Add rice and continue to sauté add deep-fried gattas, chilli powder, turmeric powder,curry leaves, garam masala and salt, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2-3minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  • garnished with coriander .serve hot
